Lanzarote in summary

We decided that we wouldn't go back to Lanzarote in a hurry.  At a push, Arricefe.  the apartment overall was very nice though.

Came back to snow and very cold weather but it was good to go and have a couple of drinks in our local and see friends.

Now, to go and write a report on Trip Advisor !

Went to Puerto del carmen again

I remember coming here in the 1980's - I don't recognise the place at all, we went to the old town and the new marina which was much further than we went with Stan and had a nice lunch, tapas of sardines and bill had fish with an onion sauce he said he really liked.

So now we are back in playa Bastian outside in the lovely warm weather here in the sunshine, can't complain, nice bottle of vino rosado just relaxing.

The bus service here is very impressive, the Brits need to make a few changes at home.

Gosh, it's hot.

Puerto del carmen

Didn't do much yesterday, lounged around and sunbathed between showers on the veranda.  Met Stan again in Puerto del Carmen and had a late lunch with him in a very nice restaurant there whe Bill had honeyed lamb and I had another good 4 cheese pizza.

Last night we went out and watched Real Madrid football v man United, I can't believe we watched football as both of us hate it - it was a good match tho.

We've discarded the idea of hiring a car as neither of us want to drive so will go on an excursion tomorrow or before we go home on sunday, probably by taxi so get away from English tourists.  We have also decided we would not come back to Lanzarote as its too touristy and we are rethinking our holiday destination for next year.

Back in the Spanish bar for food again

Here we are again in this lovely bar eating real Spanish food instead of the tat food in Costa Teguise, very genuine food at very reasonable prices.  It's called the Restaurante Fondeadero  in Las Caleta and if it's on trip advisor I will make a good report.  The taxi here was only 3 odd euros and we've asked him to collect us as it was raining big time when we left.  All spoken in Spanish otherwise the fare would have been 3 times the price.  It's only a 10 minute journey, 3/4 to an hour walk.

I think I'll have the sole menuiere again as it was so good the other day.

The weather has deteriorated somewhat until Wednesday - my friend Stan rang us today to see what we we're up to so we will see him before he goes on Thursday.

What is so good about here is that there is no football on the TV whereas everywhere in Teguise there are football pubs everywhere you can't get away from it, so really good to come here and relax with Spanish people who are very accommodating, friendly and I'm doing my best to make myself understood with surprising success.

Oh well....... More later

Sun !!

Lovely and sunny today, if not a bit windy.  We went back to Arricefe again but found a lot of places shut, but still we are walking a lot so good exercise.

Back now in a bar owned by a welsh couple who cooked us a lovely breakfast this morning, even the eggs were tasty and the bacon acceptable.

So having a g and t again soaking up the sun, people watching.  The are quite a lot of Elderly people here who come for the winter months, I think I'd go a bit stir crazy for that length of time, especially without a boat.

I've heard our chickens are soaked out and they've been put into the spare pen, it must be pretty miserable there and they must be producing mucky eggs.  Still, it's what's inside that matters.....

I shall miss my Monday morning routine tomorrow and I expect Eric is missing his lift into Fareham, only a week to go Eric and I will hopefully be able to pick you up.  I need some pork, I have no bacon left for those of you out there who need some more, next delivery will be 17th march.  Place your orders now.....

Rain !

Yesterday it rained.  Black clouds but still warm.  We dived into the nearest bar for sheltere which happened to be a surf shack renting boards, run by a German couple who were very accommodating. I've always wanted to go to Berlin and mentioned same but suddenly dried up as I didn't want to mention the war !!  It was a small place, compacted seats and a small bar selling very nice beer and wine.  There was a young man behind the bar who looked like a member of the family and he was making fresh home made burgers, we should have stayed to have some they looked really nice, so we shall go back.

So a little undecided what to do today, it was spitting with rain just now but the sun has come out.  Probably go to Arrecife again, Bill likes it there, and there's some very inexpensive restaurants there.

Just had a full English breakfast in a cafe just over the road, very nice it was too.  Run by a Welshman.

More later......

Arrecife again

Went to Arricefe today to meet Stan Bennett, my pianist musician friend  who is 82 yo.  Had a lovely lunch with him and a few drinks and packed him off on a bus back to Puerto del Carmen for just over a euro, he paid 15 for a taxi to get there.  Rip off - you have to ask the price first Stan !!

Nothing much to report today just that the wind has gone and it's lovely and warm.  Just by the pool soaking up the last of the day before I go and pour a gin and tonic.  Bill is nicely relaxed and has found a bar up the road called the fishermans so I think we will be there later on for something to eat.

Ho hum, I nearly miss you all.....
